Changing a 200 Year Old Industry w/ Michael Lovell

Changing a 200 Year Old Industry w/ Michael Lovell

Can you teach innovation in higher ed?

When you think of a University President, what’s the first word that comes to mind? You might think of administrator or academic, but you’re probably not thinking “Innovator.” Universities can be slow to change. They can feel like a giant bureaucracy. And they can sometimes seem committed to ideas that might have been cutting edge 200 years ago but have since passed their sell by date.

Higher Education is slowly going through monumental change – one that some have called a crisis. With ballooning student debt, people questioning the value of higher education, and the role of Universities changing in relation to students, companies, and communities – this is a challenge that is screaming for innovation.

It’s for these reasons, that I was excited to sit down with Marquette University President Mike Lovell on the latest episode of Innovators on Tap. We had an open and honest conversation about the future of higher-ed and how his experience with leading innovation makes him uniquely positioned to guide Marquette through this challenging time.
